"The efficiency and wear life of any screw-type auger can be dramatically increased with our Nylatron wear strip," Wayne Everson, sales engineer, told FARM SHOW. "What's more, the relatively inexpensive strip eliminates the need for hangar bearings," he points out.
Nylatron is a patented material combining long-wearing nylon and molybdenum disulphide, a dry lubricant. The strip comes with a standard 1/8 in. wide slot and is easily snapped onto auger flighting ranging from 5 to 10 in, or more in diameter. (Special strips made with a 3/16 or a 1/4 in. wide slot are availalbe on special order). The strip comes coiled and "form fitted" to snap onto your diameter auger, and can be fastened on with epoxy adhesive, or with a bolt or rivet at each end of a wear strip section.
Everson recommends putting a wear strip on the entire length of shorter augers. On augers over 5 ft. or so in length, a section of wear strip at each end, and at various spacings along the trough to evenly distribute the weight of the auger, can be used. A minimum length of 3 coils is recommended for each section of wear strip.
"If the flighting edge is worn too thin to press snugly into the slot of the wear strip, we recommend chiseling perpendicular notches about 2 or 3 in. apart into the flighting edge to create a 'bite' for the strip, then applying epoxy adhesive to help hold it securely in place," says Everson.
Retail cost of the wear strip, priced by the coiled foot, is $1.56 per ft. for 100 ft, or less, $1.22 for 100 to 249 ft., and 76 cents for 500 to 999 ft.
